Plastics Project
Pollution from single-use plastics harms our planet, our wildlife, and our own health. Much of this pollution comes from plastic items we don't need in our lives at all - from plastic grocery bags to polystyrene (aka Styrofoam) takeout food containers. The plastics project aims to push forward both local and statewide legislation to ban single-use plastic bags. Currently, we are focused on forming key partnerships with other organizations, such as ANJEC and the Plastic Pollution Coalition, & taking action for a state plastics bill to pass through the state Assembly.

John P. Stevens High School - Class of 2023
Anya Bansal is a junior at John P. Stevens High School. She’s always been fascinated by the environment and was shocked as a young child when learning about the extent of the climate crisis. Focusing on water conservation and aiming to teach and help improve knowledge about water equity and environmental justice, Anya is always looking to learn more and help others. To do this, she has started a podcast about climate change called Ice-Breaker, where she researches and speaks about various topics regarding climate change and its effects on our world. Her interest in water equity and various resources comes from participating in EarthEcho’s 30x30 campaign and the Bowseat Ocean Awareness programs, where she has won awards and has been featured on the UN Biodiversity’s Instagram page. Other than climate advocacy, Anya is part of her school newspaper and participates in NHD, Girls Who Code, and her school’s mentorship club. Additionally, she loves reading, biking, art, listening to music, and hanging out with her friends.
