Plastics Project
Pollution from single-use plastics harms our planet, our wildlife, and our own health. Much of this pollution comes from plastic items we don't need in our lives at all - from plastic grocery bags to polystyrene (aka Styrofoam) takeout food containers. The plastics project aims to push forward both local and statewide legislation to ban single-use plastic bags. Currently, we are focused on forming key partnerships with other organizations, such as ANJEC and the Plastic Pollution Coalition, & taking action for a state plastics bill to pass through the state Assembly.

Svan has been passionate about the environment for her entire life, though is newer to the world of activism. She got started by getting involved in local politics around open space and other sustainability issues with local environmental organization Our Green West Orange. In April 2021, she also had the privilege of becoming a trained Climate Reality leader in the Greater NJ Gateway Chapter, where she is on the youth committee. Right now as a member of NJSSC she is focusing on campaigning for the Green Amendment, which she believes has the potential to drastically change the legal system in a world that so many young people have recognized as needing systemic change. In her free time, she enjoys reading, creative writing, and going on runs and walks
